Bosatsu

Fugen Bosatsu

FU of Fugen Bosatsu means eternity. Gen means to vanquish Karma with the highest good.
On the contrary of the wisdom of Monju, the moral virtue of Fugen is worshipped as an attendant to Shaka Nyorai. In the legend of Monju and Fugen, these two are princes of Amida Nyorai, Monju, an elder brother, rides a Shishi( historical lion ) expressing Tei(stable), Gyu(act), while Fugen, the younger, rides a white elephant expressing moral virtue. Though there are many forms, they in the pecture are riding a white elephant with six tusks. Fugen Enmei Bosatsu who rules over prolongation of life has one face and twenty arms riding a white elephant with twenty four tusks.
