Tenjin

Bon Ten

Originally the god for the creation in India. Adapted to Buddhism, he was born in Shiki Kai(sensual world) and became the King of Hatsuzen Ten. Not having sensual appetite, he is pure, rational a lot. He protects Buddhsim and governs the Heaven as the lord of ordinary people. He is one of the Twelve ten, a guardian deva as well as Taishaku Ten. There exist masterpieces in Todaiji or Toshodaiji. As the form of the Esoteric Buddhism, he has four faces and four arms riding on the snowy herons.
